About the role#
The perception and machine learning team at the Innovation & Engineering Center California applies machine learning to the automotive industry, including autonomous driving and manufacturing. You will support a team of researchers and engineers to develop modern methods for sensor data processing and robust perception. This is a 6-12 month fellowship starting in January 2027.
What you'll do#
- Pre-process data by checking labels and formatting.
- Build data pipelines for training deep neural networks.
- Benchmark and report on the performance of various neural network models.
- Research new network architectures for time series prediction and anomaly detection.
- Improve environment perception through research focused on optical sensors.
- Study supervised and unsupervised learning methods to estimate the depth, motion, and velocity of road participants.
- Explore neural networks for camera image interpretation, including object detection, panoptic segmentation, and trajectory planning.
- Fuse neural networks to use shared resources and reduce memory and computation footprints.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Masters or PhD program in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Mathematics, or graduation within the last six months.
- A cumulative GPA of at least 3.0.
- Strong Python skills and experience with Linux.
- Proficiency in deep learning frameworks like TensorFlow and PyTorch.
- Knowledge of image processing and machine learning.
- Experience with Transformers, CNNs, RNNs, LSTMs, and current research trends.
- Familiarity with data gathering, system architecture, and coding best practices.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Interest in cars or physical products.
Location & details#
- Location: Belmont, California.
- Term: Winter 2027.
- Modality: On-site.
