About the role#
Volkert, Inc. offers an internship program for undergraduate students to gain experience in civil engineering and related fields. This is a paid, full-time position available in Springfield, VA, Mobile, AL, and Virginia Beach, VA. We offer terms during the Summer 2027, Fall 2026, and Winter 2027 sessions. Please note that we do not provide relocation or housing assistance for this role.
What you'll do#
- Explore the civil engineering industry and your specific field of study.
- Learn internal systems, processes, and professional best practices.
- Complete a project assignment or job duties directly related to your major.
- Learn business and office etiquette.
- Understand and apply safety procedures for field work.
- Present your project or experience to leadership at the end of your internship.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a full-time undergraduate student.
- A cumulative 2.50 undergraduate GPA.
- Enrollment in a degree program for Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Construction Management, or Civil Engineering Technology.
- Minimum of Sophomore standing is recommended, though high school graduates with Freshman standing may be considered if involved in a STEM or leadership program.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening.
- A valid driver’s license and a satisfactory motor vehicle report (MVR).

- Locations: Springfield, VA; Mobile, AL; Virginia Beach, VA.
- Work Modality: On-site.
- Availability: Preference for 40 hours per week during the summer, with a 30-hour minimum. Hours may vary during fall or spring semesters.
