About the role#
The Functional Genomics Co-op is a 6-month experiential training program designed for students pursuing an advanced degree. You will join the Research functional area to support small-molecule drug discovery programs through genomic technologies, including CRISPR-Cas9 gene editing and high-throughput genetic screening. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to target validation and mechanism-of-action studies while working alongside scientists to advance therapeutic programs.
What you'll do#
- Contribute to study planning and oversee experimental activities based on established protocols.
- Collaborate with scientists to conduct experiments using disease-relevant human cell models.
- Generate gene-edited cellular models and develop disease-relevant assays.
- Perform cellular screening experiments and evaluate compound activity using flow cytometry and high-content imaging.
- Analyze experimental data to guide project decisions and summarize key findings.
- Maintain accurate records of methods, observations, and results in an electronic laboratory notebook.
- Present results and conclusions to the Functional Genomics team and project partners.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a master's degree or PhD program in Biology, Biochemistry, Genetics, Computational Biology, or a related scientific discipline.
- If graduating before June 2027, you must be enrolled in an advanced degree program.
- Hands-on experience with human cell culture or tissue culture.
- Familiarity with molecular biology methods, specifically PCR and cloning.
- Foundational understanding of genetics, genomics, and gene-editing technologies.
- Experience with flow cytometry is highly preferred.
- Experience with CRISPR-Cas9 gene editing is preferred.
- Experience generating, maintaining, and characterizing mammalian cell lines is preferred.
