About the role#
The Utah Jazz are hiring a Basketball Analytics Intern for Summer 2027. This part-time internship lasts 10 to 12 weeks. You will work on projects that help our Basketball Operations team predict outcomes and make data-driven decisions. You will receive mentorship from our data scientists and engineers throughout the summer.
What you'll do#
- Conduct in-depth basketball analytics projects.
- Clean, validate, and analyze basketball datasets.
- Develop and evaluate statistical or machine-learning models.
- Translate findings into practical recommendations for nontechnical stakeholders.
- Document your code, methods, assumptions, and model results.
- Present your work to key stakeholders.
- Exemplify the Utah Jazz mission and values.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate program in statistics, data science, mathematics, computer science, or a related field.
- At least 1 year of experience analyzing data using Python or R.
- Coursework or experience in statistical modeling and machine learning.
- Understanding of model validation, uncertainty, and analytical pitfalls.
- Experience communicating analytical results to nontechnical audiences.
- Familiarity with basketball data and current analytics techniques.
- A track record of writing clean, well-documented code.
- Enthusiasm for basketball and a desire to work in a startup-like environment.
- Experience with SQL and Git is preferred.

- This role is based in Salt Lake City, Utah.
- The position is hybrid and requires the intern to spend part of the summer on-site.
- This is a paid internship.
