About the role#
This grant-funded internship honors the career of Dr. Loyd V. Allen, Jr. by offering an early career pharmacist or healthcare professional the chance to gain experience in pharmaceutical compounding. You will work on projects related to USP standards and contribute to the activities of the Compounding Expert Committee. This is a part-time, non-renewable position lasting up to 6 weeks.
What you'll do#
- Build a deep understanding of USP compounding standards and engage with stakeholders.
- Research current trends in the field, such as facility design, quality assurance, and emerging technologies.
- Create implementation tools for compounding standards, including educational resources and external communications.
- Conduct laboratory studies and support monograph development by analyzing method validation and stability reports.
- Assist the Compounding Expert Committee with planning and organizing activities on specific compounding topics.
What you'll need#
- An advanced degree in pharmacy or pharmaceutical sciences, such as a PharmD or Ph.D.
- You must not be concurrently employed. Pharmacy residents and fellows may apply with written permission from their programs.
- A strong interest in compounding, regulatory affairs, and standards development.
- Experience conducting research using literature, web sources, and internal data.
- The ability to write about your research for peer-reviewed journals.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- You work well in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment.
Location & details#
- The position is based at the USP headquarters in Rockville, Maryland.
- Work may be conducted on-site, hybrid, or remotely as appropriate.
- The recipient receives a one-time stipend of $5,000 to cover logistics, travel, and conference attendance.
