About the role#
The Gordon Oakes Red Bear Student Centre hires Student Assistants to support the academic and personal success of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit students. This position is open only to Indigenous candidates. Verification of Indigenous membership or citizenship is a required condition of employment. You will report to the Indigenous Student Services Manager and help maintain the Centre as a welcoming environment.
What you'll do#
- Assist with weekly programs including soup and bannock sessions, cultural and academic workshops, study nights, and wellness events.
- Support major events like Indigenous Achievement Week and New Indigenous Student Welcome.
- Handle physical setup and takedown of furniture and AV equipment for events.
- Maintain the cleanliness and order of the Centre.
- Cover the front desk and manage administrative tasks such as data entry, photocopying, and faxing.
- Attend mandatory training sessions.
What you'll need#
- Current status as a full-time undergraduate student at the University of Saskatchewan.
- Understanding of the cultures and histories of Saskatchewan Indigenous communities.
- Strong communication, leadership, and time-management skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel and PowerPoint.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Willingness to work occasional evenings or outside regular hours.
- Previous office or volunteer experience and Food Safe certification are considered assets.

- Hours: Minimum of 10 hours and maximum of 40 hours per month.
