About the role#
The Sylvester Data Science and AI Innovations Internship Program offers supervised training for students and fellows. You will help develop tools to analyze and visualize clinical and research data in oncology. You will work across Sylvester research laboratories and the Sylvester Survivorship and Supportive Care Institute to process molecular, sociodemographic, psychosocial, patient-reported, lifestyle, and clinical data.
What you'll do#
- Build foundational knowledge of oncology research.
- Support data cleaning, documentation, harmonization, and integration of diverse research datasets.
- Link individual-level clinical, genomics, and digital health data with population-level information.
- Contribute to research on how social and behavioral factors influence cancer care delivery and outcomes.
- Develop and evaluate AI-driven risk algorithms, analytic tools, and dashboards.
- Assist in creating digital health and precision medicine software.
- Help implement AI-powered supportive care interventions via eHealth platforms.
- Participate in regular meetings with mentors and faculty to review pipelines and refine research methods.
- Provide technical support to your assigned division and maintain clear communication regarding work progress.
What you'll need#
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- At least 1 year of relevant experience.
- Coursework or experience in Python, R, SQL, JavaScript, statistics, data visualization, or software development.
- Interest in applying AI and computational approaches to oncology, precision medicine, and biomedical data science.
- Familiarity with Git, reproducible workflows, software testing, or application development.
- Experience with cloud-based environments like Azure and training AI models.
- Ability to learn new protocols and adapt to changing priorities.
- Strong organizational and team science skills.
