The Student Governance and Legislative Assistant provides administrative and legislative support to the Students’ Council and its various committees. This role involves maintaining governance records, drafting policies, and assisting student leaders in executing governance activities within the University of Alberta Students’ Union.
What you'll do#
- Provide administrative support to the Students’ Council and its standing and ad hoc committees.
- Assist in drafting, reviewing, and updating bylaws and policies.
- Develop and update training materials for Students’ Council members, including committee chair resources and training on Roberts’ Rules of Order.
- Create and maintain accurate, accessible versions of all Committee Manuals.
- Manage ongoing maintenance of governance records, including department documentation and digital file management.
- Support the development and implementation of the First-Year Council.
- Collaborate with the Governance Department to achieve organizational goals while maintaining impartiality and integrity.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as an undergraduate student at the University of Alberta.
- Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities effectively.
- Ability to work in a highly collaborative environment.
- Interest in governance structures and the ability to interact professionally with colleagues, students, and the public.
- Familiarity with Google applications and Apple products is preferred.
- Previous experience in University or UASU governance and familiarity with Roberts’ Rules of Order are considered assets.
Location & details#
- Location: Edmonton, Alberta (University of Alberta campus).
- Work Modality: Hybrid.
- Hours: Approximately 15 hours per week, with the flexibility to work some evenings and weekends based on class schedules.
- Compensation: $19.07 per hour.
