The Research Analyst reports to the Director of Research and Advocacy (DRA) to support the University of Alberta Students' Union. This role involves researching and analyzing information regarding government and university priorities, policies, and practices that affect the student experience. This is a part-time, paid, term position running from September 2026 through April 2027 at 20 hours per week.
What you'll do#
- Monitor external and university trends and developments affecting post-secondary policy and perception.
- Assist in the strategic analysis of data and trends, providing input for department and executive consideration.
- Conduct research into the priorities, policies, and practices of other post-secondary institutions and government jurisdictions.
- Produce reports, fact sheets, presentations, and other communications relating to university policies.
- Review, analyze, and suggest amendments to UASU, university, and government policies.
- Maintain files in areas of active inquiry and archive knowledge for future use.
- Attend internal and external meetings as requested by the DRA.
What you'll need#
- Must be registered in, or a recent graduate of, a for-credit undergraduate program at the University of Alberta.
- Excellent communication and critical thinking skills with a demonstrated capacity for lateral thinking.
- Ability to work on tight timelines and meet deadlines.
- Knowledge of statistics, quantitative methods, and financial data analysis (including budgets and annual returns) is considered an asset.
- Familiarity with University of Alberta governance, the post-secondary policy environment, and experience drafting or interpreting policy are assets.
- Working knowledge of French is an asset.
