About the role#
This is a paid, on-site internship for a Surgical Technologist Intern at St. John Medical Center. The position is part-time, per diem, and follows a rolling schedule.
What you'll do#
You will support the operative team by assisting with procedures where you have demonstrated competency. Your daily tasks include ensuring all instruments and supplies are ready and in good working condition. You will provide labeled medications at the correct doses on the sterile field. You will also participate in patient care hand-offs and perform duties that support the surgical team. You are expected to use various technical equipment to meet patient needs and maintain the security of Protected Health Information (PHI) at all times. This role involves a commitment to ongoing learning and self-improvement.
What you'll need#
Candidates must be enrolled in the final year of a Surgical Technologist program or have completed a bachelor's degree and be currently enrolled in an accredited medical school. You need a thorough understanding of asepsis, instrumentation, sutures, and surgical procedures. Good communication skills are required. You must be able to use a wide variety of technical equipment to meet patient care needs. You are required to obtain Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 90 days of starting the role.
