About the role#
University Hospitals is seeking a Surgical Technologist Intern to join the L & D unit at MacDonald Women's Hospital. This internship provides hands-on experience in a clinical setting, allowing you to support the operative team while developing your professional skills. This is a paid, per diem position.
What you'll do#
- Function in the primary scrub position for procedures where you have demonstrated competency.
- Assist with technical tasks during operative procedures.
- Ensure all instruments and supplies are ready and in good working condition.
- Provide labeled medications with correct doses on the sterile field.
- Follow patient care hand-off protocols and support the operative team.
- Operate a wide variety of technical equipment to support patient care and medical therapies.
- Participate in ongoing learning and self-improvement.
- Maintain the security of Protected Health Information (PHI) in accordance with hospital policies.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in the final year of a Surgical Technologist program.
- Thorough knowledge of asepsis, instrumentation, sutures, and surgical procedures.
- Strong communication skills.
- Ability to operate a wide variety of technical equipment.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, which must be obtained within 90 days of hire.
- Ability to meet physical demands, including frequent lifting, pushing, pulling, and carrying of up to 50 lbs.
