About the role#
Helping Hands Veterinary Surgery and Dentistry of Florida offers clinical externships for veterinary students. You will work in a hospital setting focused on soft tissue surgery, orthopedic surgery, and dental procedures. This role provides mentorship and hands-on experience in a surgical environment. Students are expected to share their learning goals at the start of the rotation to help tailor the experience.
What you'll do#
- Participate in case discussions and collaborative problem-solving with the team.
- Provide hands-on patient care across GP, ER, and specialty settings.
- Assist with surgical cases including spays, neuters, abdominal exploratory, and limb amputations.
- Perform routine and advanced dental procedures.
- Discuss cases with supervising veterinarians to verify exam findings and treatment plans.
- Work on emergency cases and sick patient workups under supervision.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a veterinary student at an AVMA-accredited school.
- Priority is given to students in their clinical years on official externship blocks for school credit.
- Proof of professional liability insurance.
