About the role#
U-Haul is seeking a Sustainability Intern to assist our team with research, communication, and data processing. You will support the Chief Sustainability Officer and Scientist by managing projects related to energy, water, and waste conservation. This is an on-site, paid role based in Phoenix, Arizona, with a schedule of 20-25 hours per week.
What you'll do#
- Execute and oversee conservation projects across the U-Haul system.
- Assist with energy benchmarking submissions using Energy Star Portfolio Manager or other reporting platforms.
- Communicate company sustainability initiatives through articles, presentations, event planning, and online content updates.
- Process sustainability grant data and collect information from winning vendor bids.
- Follow up with grant requestors to track project completion.
- Research topics related to transportation, energy, construction, and urban planning.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a degree program related to sustainability, marketing, communications, environmental or civil engineering, economics, or statistics.
- 1-3 years of related experience.
- Working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Strong research and data analysis skills, including an interest in quantitative work.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to engage with field teams and vendors.
- Critical thinking, a creative mindset, and the ability to generate interest in business sustainability.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills with high attention to detail.

- This position is located on-site in Phoenix, Arizona.
- This is a part-time, paid internship.
