About the role#
Turning Point Center for Youth & Family Development offers an internship for undergraduate students to gain experience in community mental health. You will work within an outpatient setting, supporting programs that address mental health and substance use. This role allows you to customize your experience to gain exposure to different clinical settings and populations. This is an unpaid position intended for academic credit.
What you'll do#
- Assist with intakes, group co-facilitation, and case documentation under supervision.
- Shadow and support clinicians during coaching, individual, group, and family therapy sessions.
- Coordinate services and maintain regular contact with clients, families, and external partners.
- Attend staff meetings, case consultations, and professional development sessions.
- Support outreach efforts for clients on Medicaid and underserved populations.
- Maintain strict confidentiality and follow HIPAA and agency guidelines.
- Act as a role model for clients through professional demeanor, language, and appearance.
- Oversee aspects of client treatment delivery and coordinate with your supervisor to ensure high-quality care.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an undergraduate program for HDFS, Social Work, Psychology, or a related field.
- Strong interpersonal skills, cultural humility, and a commitment to social equity.
- Ability to pass a background check and UA requirements.
- Reliable transportation and availability for on-site, in-person work.
- Coursework or experience in family systems, criminal justice, or trauma-informed care is preferred.
