About the role#
This is a full-time, paid internship at the SouthPark Primary Care location. You will work Monday through Friday from 8 am to 5 pm. The role offers hands-on experience in a medical setting, including exposure to laboratory services, registration, document management, and care coordination.
What you'll do#
- Escort patients to exam rooms and procedure rooms.
- Interview patients and collect medical history.
- Measure vital signs, including weight, blood pressure, pulse, and temperature.
- Perform screenings and prepare patients for physical examinations.
- Document patient information in the electronic health record.
- Assist patients with walking transfers, dressing, and collecting specimens.
- Assemble patient health information, including exam results, X-ray reports, lab tests, and treatment plans.
- Ensure all relevant reports and labs are available in patient records before appointments.
- Verify that forms are completed, identified, and signed.
- Communicate with physicians and other health care professionals.
- Obtain and send patient medical records.
- Administer injections after completing Tryon training certification.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in or a degree from an accredited undergraduate or graduate program with a focus on medicine.
- Status as a student on track to return to medical school or complete a Physician Assistant program.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
- Ability to complete required online and in-person vaccination administration training.
- Current American Heart Association or American Red Cross BLS Certification.
- Completion of Hepatitis B and Flu vaccine forms, or proof of vaccination.
- Completion of a TB test.
- Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently.
- Ability to lift and support 35 pounds and perform physical tasks like walking, standing, and bending.
