About the role#
This is a full-time internship for the Winter 2027 term based in Scarborough, Ontario. You will join the R&D team to bridge the gap between electrical engineering and software development. Your work focuses on building internal tools and AI models to improve engineering workflows for instrument transformers and reactors.
What you'll do#
- Build and test internal web applications that support the design and production of air core reactors.
- Work with the R&D team to find manual workflows that benefit from AI or software automation.
- Develop and integrate machine learning models using Python and libraries like TensorFlow or PyTorch.
- Validate AI model outputs against power systems, electromagnetic theory, and circuit design standards.
- Create user-friendly interfaces for engineering staff to interact with new tools.
- Gather requirements from engineers to ensure tools solve real operational problems.
- Document your development process, technical decisions, and tool functionality.
- Test and improve tools based on direct team feedback.
- Research emerging AI techniques to propose new solutions for engineering challenges.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- Foundational knowledge of power systems, electromagnetic theory, circuit design, and control systems.
- Proficiency in Python and machine learning libraries like TensorFlow or PyTorch.
- Experience with web application frameworks such as Angular, React, Vue, or Flask.
- Exposure to relational databases and SQL.
- Understanding of transformer or reactor design principles.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical engineering documentation.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Ability to work on-site in a collaborative R&D setting.
