About the role#
The Extreme Performance Intelligent Control team at Toyota Research Institute develops techniques to improve vehicle safety and performance. We focus on optimization, machine learning, and computer vision to build predictive models and control frameworks for extreme vehicle maneuvering. This internship offers the chance to apply research to high-performance driving problems, including experiments with vehicles on a closed racetrack.
What you'll do#
- Create new algorithms for optimization, modeling, embodied reasoning, or perception.
- Deploy and test these models on high-performance cars.
- Communicate your research findings through internal reports and presentations at international conferences.
What you'll need#
- You are a Ph.D. candidate in robotics, machine learning, control, computer vision, differentiable optimization, Bayesian modeling, embodied reasoning, or a related field.
- You have proficiency in Python, C++, ROS(2), Pytorch, or JAX.
- You have practical experience deploying algorithms on real-world platforms.
- You communicate well and enjoy working in teams.
- You have a strong interest in advancing vehicle autonomy and embodied AI.
Location & details#
- This is a full-time, paid 12-week internship for Summer 2027.
- The role is based in Los Altos, California, and follows a hybrid work model.
