About the role#
The Center for Applied Research and Innovation (CARI) at The Salvation Army USA Western Territory is seeking a Research Intern. This is a paid, full-time, on-site position based in Tustin, California. You will gain hands-on experience in research, data analysis, and problem-solving focused on homelessness, mental health, and substance use. This role involves working with researchers, policymakers, and community partners to develop evidence-informed solutions to complex social challenges.
What you'll do#
- Conduct literature reviews on homelessness, mental health, and substance use.
- Analyze quantitative and qualitative data to identify trends and insights.
- Assist in preparing research reports, presentations, and policy briefs.
- Brainstorm and contribute ideas for programs and interventions.
- Support the design and evaluation of pilot projects or case studies.
- Conduct focus groups and interviews with staff, volunteers, and program participants.
- Assist with managing research data, documentation, and grant proposal efforts.
- Participate in team meetings to share progress and findings.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in or recent graduation from a program in sociology, public health, communications, psychology, social work, political science, or a related field.
- A genuine interest in addressing homelessness and a commitment to social justice.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to meet deadlines and handle figures accurately.
- Understanding of The Salvation Army Christian mission.
