About the role#
The Comprehensive Cancer Center at The Ohio State University is hiring a Student Research Assistant to support studies on how the built environment affects cancer risk factors and outcomes. You will work under the supervision of program staff to collect data and assist in translating research results into posters and manuscripts.
What you'll do#
- Perform virtual neighborhood audits using a proprietary Google Street View API called CANVAS.
- Conduct visual assessments of built environment factors like sidewalk walkability, neighborhood disinvestment, and advertising environments.
- Identify specific indicators such as building conditions, presence of litter, and road verge conditions.
- Assist with results translation, including creating posters and contributing to peer-reviewed manuscripts.
- Complete training provided before the start of work to ensure reliable identification of indicators.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a student at The Ohio State University.
- Close attention to detail and the ability to maintain focus during repetitive tasks.
- Strong verbal communication skills.

- This is an on-site, part-time position located at 3650 Olentangy River Rd, Columbus, Ohio.
- This role is paid and temporary with a fixed term.
- Hiring is on a rolling basis.
