About the role#
The Student Nurse Externship is a continuous eight-week summer program for rising senior nursing students. You will work alongside highly skilled nurse preceptors and gain hands-on experience within multidisciplinary teams. This program takes place in diverse specialty care areas, providing a supportive atmosphere for your professional development.
What you'll do#
- Work directly with nurse preceptors to gain clinical experience.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across various specialty care units.
- Direct the activities of other student employees.
- Represent the department and university by applying our mission and shared values.
- Complete 32 to 36 hours of work per week throughout the program.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an accredited baccalaureate nursing program with your junior year completed.
- A GPA of 3.2 or higher.
- A 250-word essay detailing your transition from student nurse to professional nurse.
- Submission of your resume and school transcripts or an advising report.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to work in a professional environment.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Significant specialized training or experience.

- Location: University Hospital, Ohio.
- Term: Summer 2027 (May 24 to July 17).
- Modality: On-site, full-time.
- Compensation: This is a paid position.
