About the role#
This internship provides practical experience in golf course and turfgrass management. You will work directly with our agronomy team to learn the operations and maintenance required to maintain high-quality playing conditions. You will meet with the Director of Grounds and the Golf Course Superintendent to discuss the strategies and decisions behind our daily work. This role is full-time and on-site in Chestnut Hill.
What you'll do#
- Assist the Golf Course Superintendent in maintaining course and grounds conditions.
- Perform daily course setup and preparation.
- Participate in maintenance tasks like mowing greens, tees, fairways, and roughs.
- Handle cultural practices such as aerification, verticutting, and divot filling.
- Monitor turf and soil moisture levels.
- Assist with irrigation troubleshooting and maintenance.
- Apply chemicals and fertilizers under supervision and maintain accurate records.
- Support topdressing applications and programming.
- Practice tree care, hazard maintenance, and general landscape work.
- Contribute to construction and improvement projects as assigned.
What you'll need#
- A valid driver license.
- A solid understanding of the game of golf.
- Ability to think critically and make quick decisions.
- A positive attitude and the ability to work well within a team.
- Enrollment in or completion of an accredited Turfgrass Management Program is preferred.
- Physical ability to stand for 8 to 10 hours and lift up to 50 lbs.
- Willingness to work early morning hours, weekends, holidays, and 10 to 12 hour days outdoors.
