About the role#
As a Pharmacy Intern, you will assist pharmacists in various departments to master technical skills and develop professionally. You will work under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist to prepare and distribute medications according to prescriptions or physician orders.
What you'll do#
- Prepare and distribute medications including unit dose packaging, filling, and stocking.
- Transport medications and supplies to various hospital areas, including crash carts and automated dispensing cabinets.
- Prepare intravenous admixtures and sterile products using aseptic technique.
- Operate pharmacy systems such as Epic RX, BAXA, and Abacus.
- Manage narcotic inventory and operate automated dispensing machines.
- Perform medication reconciliation in the emergency department and complete clinical consults for vancomycin and warfarin, depending on your year in school.
- Maintain a safe and orderly pharmacy environment while following all hospital safety policies.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an accredited College of Pharmacy.
- Registration with the Ohio State Board of Pharmacy as an Intern (first-year students must obtain this within one month of starting school).
- Understanding of pharmacy computer systems and medical terminology.
- Ability to communicate effectively with other healthcare professionals.
- Pharmacy experience is preferred.
