Event Support Specialist

About the role#

The Event Support Specialist provides high-level technical support for the Student Union's audio/visual systems and services. This role is responsible for designing and overseeing AV requirements for events, troubleshooting technical issues, and supervising the Student Union student tech team. You will work on-site to ensure live events and meetings run effectively through proper equipment calibration and operation.

What you'll do#

• Set up, test, operate, and calibrate audio, video, and lighting equipment for live events and meetings.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex AV problems via phone, remote access, and in-person support.
• Supervise and coordinate the Student Union student tech team.
• Plan event layouts and consult on sound and lighting requirements for recording requests.
• Maintain hardware, software, and peripheral equipment, ensuring the security and integrity of systems.
• Provide hands-on training to users and develop technical documentation and help files for equipment operation.

What you'll need#

• Bachelor’s degree.
• Two years of experience in event audio/visual support.
• Proficiency with digital and analog audio mixers, wireless microphone systems, data projectors, and webstreaming.
• Knowledge of audio, video, and lighting equipment, including cameras, switchers, and projectors.
• Ability to organize work effectively, prioritize tasks in a high-pressure environment, and exercise independent judgment.
• Strong interpersonal skills to build effective relationships with students, faculty, and staff.
• Preferred majors include Communications, Media Studies, Business Administration, Graphic Design, or Computer Science.
