Director, Student Account & External Services

About the role#

The Director, Student Account & External Services oversees student billing, receivables, and external financial operations across the statewide system. This position ensures consistent execution of processes, enforces internal controls, and manages operational performance to support institutional policies. The Director acts as the institutional authority on receivables and billing, providing leadership for centralized teams while driving strategic process improvements.

What you'll do#

• Oversee all operations of Student Accounts & External Services statewide, including tuition and fee assessment, student billing, adjustments, and institutional or third-party billing.
• Manage ERP configuration for student and accounts receivable modules to ensure automation and accuracy.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and regulatory billing requirements and serve as the lead for billing-related audit coordination.
• Provide leadership for centralized student and institutional accounts teams, establishing operational priorities and performance expectations.
• Oversee revenue reconciliation, refund processing, and 1098-T compliance.
• Collaborate with Financial Aid, Registrar, Finance, and campus leadership to align billing operations with institutional priorities.
• Champion innovation and modernization efforts to enhance operational efficiency and service quality.

What you'll need#

• Associate degree in Business Management or a related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in student accounts, financial services, or related operations, including at least 2 years of supervisory experience.
• Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
• Preferred: 7–10 years of progressive experience in higher education student accounts, bursar operations, or financial services.
• Experience with cash handling operations, internal controls, compliance oversight, and multi-site operations.
• Strong ability to interpret financial, regulatory, and operational data to guide institutional direction.
