About the role#
The Texas Farm Bureau is seeking a Legislative Intern to support the Government Affairs team during the 2027 Regular Session of the Texas Legislature. Based in the State Legislative Office in Austin, this role provides hands-on experience in the legislative process and advocacy. You will assist in advancing policy interests that support Texas agricultural producers and rural communities, while gaining exposure to state government and professional networking through the Texas Agriculture Council (TAC).
What you'll do#
- Research high-profile legislative and policy issues affecting Texas agriculture.
- Track legislation, monitor committee hearings, and follow policy developments at the Texas Capitol.
- Create briefing materials, presentations, and advocacy resources for legislators and stakeholders.
- Write bill summaries, policy briefs, and legislative communications, including content for the Austin Newsletter.
- Provide support to the Texas Agriculture Council (TAC) by coordinating meeting logistics, managing schedules for guest speakers, and maintaining bill tracking reports.
- Utilize legislative tracking tools to provide real-time updates and support strategic advocacy.
What you'll need#
- Current undergraduate student or recent graduate.
- Interest in public policy issues, including agriculture, property rights, environmental regulations, or water policy.
- Practical knowledge of production agriculture and rural issues.
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills and a willingness to learn new skills.
- Ability to work in an office environment, including occasional long or irregular hours and travel.
- Ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting items up to 30 lbs and extended periods of sitting.
