About the role#
Terracon Geotechnique Ltd. is hiring civil engineering and geoscience students for full-time, hands-on field roles in the Fort McMurray area. This position provides practical experience in soil engineering, quality control, construction monitoring, and site investigations within oil sands and open-pit mining environments. You will work alongside industry experts to gain technical training and mentorship.
What you'll do#
- Build skills in soils, earthwork, concrete testing, construction monitoring, and piling inspections.
- Communicate field testing results to client representatives.
- Monitor subcontractor compliance with design specifications.
- Document and verify that earthworks construction aligns with project requirements.
- Learn material testing techniques in a professional setting.
- Implement safety controls and promote a culture of safety on the job site.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology, Geosciences, or related program.
- High school diploma.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record and the ability to drive a 4x4 vehicle off-road.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including 12-hour shifts.
- Physical ability to perform laboratory tasks.
- Strong time management, documentation, and communication skills.
- Legal authorization to work in Canada.
- Successful completion of a Fit for Work assessment and a Drug and Alcohol test.
- Prior technical experience is an asset.

- Location: Fort McMurray, Alberta, Canada.
- Term: Summer 2027 start, with an 8-month duration.
- Modality: On-site.
- Compensation: $27 to $29 per hour, based on experience.
