About the role#
Tenafly Veterinary Center offers a clinical externship program for veterinary students. This program provides practical experience in a small animal practice to help you prepare for your career after graduation. You will work alongside our veterinary team under the guidance of a mentor doctor to meet your specific learning goals or those required by your college program. We provide a stipend of $250 per week.
What you'll do#
Externs participate in the daily caseload of our practice. Your responsibilities include:
- Gathering patient histories and performing physical examinations.
- Developing diagnostic and therapeutic plans.
- Scrubbing in to surgery.
- Assisting in the management of medical cases.
- Providing wellness care.
- Developing client communication skills.
- Polishing technical skills.
- Producing medical records, including SOAPs.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited DVM program.
- Authorization to work in the United States.
- Professional liability insurance. You must submit a certificate of coverage with your application.
- A professional demeanor and adherence to the standards outlined in our employee handbook.
Location & details#
- Location: Tenafly, New Jersey.
- Modality: On-site.
- Term: Rolling, with rotations typically lasting two to three weeks, though they can range from two to eight weeks.
- Schedule: Includes day, evening, and weekend shifts.
