About the role#
This summer internship offers hands-on experience in beef cattle health management. You will work alongside our veterinary team to support animal care and production efficiency. The role combines traditional veterinary tasks with digital health monitoring systems to help drive data-based decisions for our clients.
What you'll do#
- Conduct digital necropsies and collect laboratory samples at client feedlot sites.
- Collaborate with veterinarians, nutritionists, and research consultants to provide animal health services.
- Assist the team with bovine surgeries, calvings, and breeding soundness examinations.
- Use feed analysis and health monitoring data to inform management decisions.
- Develop and share evidence-based protocols with client operations.
- Support research projects and help maintain regulatory compliance.
- Manage pharmaceutical inventory to ensure proper animal care.
- Analyze health trends to contribute to livestock improvement plans.
- Handle administrative tasks and keep accurate digital records.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) program at an accredited institution.
- A valid driver's license and the ability to travel to client sites.
- Proficiency in Windows-based software.
- Ability to lift and push up to 50 lb.
- Flexibility to work variable hours, including weekends and extended shifts.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Comfort working outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Previous experience with cattle in feedlot, dairy, or cow/calf operations is preferred.
- Understanding of agricultural production and animal welfare is preferred.
- Background in research methodology or data analytics is preferred.
