About the role#
The Syracuse City School District is looking for doctoral-level students to complete a School Psychologist Externship. This role involves applying theory and methodology to assess student needs and implement plans of action. You will work with students in pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade to support their learning and social-emotional functioning. This is a paid, on-site, full-time position with a rolling term. Please note that you may need a flexible schedule to coordinate with families and community agencies outside of traditional school hours.
What you'll do#
- Conduct psycho-educational assessments based on specific student concerns.
- Administer and interpret curriculum-based assessments and review school-collected data.
- Perform behavioral assessments, including FBAs, to help design individualized behavior plans.
- Provide academic, social-emotional, and behavioral interventions to support student adjustment.
- Collaborate with school teams to develop and monitor IEP goals.
- Participate in parent-teacher conferences and team meetings as needed.
- Assist with crisis intervention and suicide assessment as a member of the district crisis team.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment as a doctoral-level student in Psychology, Sociology, or Public Health.
- Experience or coursework in psycho-educational and behavioral assessment.
- Ability to use data-based decision-making to solve academic problems.
- Knowledge of crisis intervention techniques.
- Strong collaboration skills for working with educational teams, families, and community partners.
