About the role#
The School Psychologist Externship provides doctoral-level students with the opportunity to engage in long-term, school-based practice. Externs apply theory and research-based best practices to assess, formulate, and implement plans of action that address the mental, social, emotional, and developmental needs of students in pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade. This role involves working with families and community agencies to provide comprehensive evaluation services, which may occasionally require a flexible schedule outside of traditional school hours.
What you'll do#
- Conduct psycho-educational assessments appropriate to specific concerns and professional standards.
- Administer and interpret curriculum-based assessments and review school-collected data to assist in academic problem-solving.
- Perform behavioral assessments, including functional behavioral assessments, to help design individualized behavior plans.
- Provide academic, social-emotional, and behavioral interventions to support student adjustment and learning.
- Collaborate with school teams to develop and monitor Individualized Education Plan (IEP) goals.
- Participate in parent-teacher conferences and team meetings as necessary.
- Serve as a member of the district crisis team and provide crisis intervention services.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a doctoral-level program in Psychology, Sociology, or Public Health.
- Proficiency in psycho-educational and behavioral assessment techniques.
- Experience with data-based decision-making to inform instructional programming.
- Ability to perform crisis intervention and suicide assessments.
- Strong collaboration skills for working with educational teams, families, and community partners.
