Intern - Welding Engineer

About the role#

The Welding Engineer Intern supports the Welding Manager and project teams within the Heavy Industrial and Mining Group. This role provides hands-on exposure to field welding operations, quality control, and construction, focusing on the development and implementation of welding procedures and project audits.

What you'll do#

• Assist with the development, review, and maintenance of Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), Procedure Qualification Records (PQR), and Welder Performance Qualifications (WPQ).
• Monitor welding activities to ensure compliance with approved procedures and project requirements.
• Conduct site visits to observe welding operations and learn field practices.
• Interpret welding codes, standards, and project specifications (AWS, ASME, AISC, etc.).
• Maintain welding documentation and qualification records.
• Support the evaluation of welding processes, base materials, and filler metals for project applications.
• Help respond to field questions and RFIs related to welding requirements.

What you'll need#

• Pursuing a degree in Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial Engineering.
• AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification or the ability to obtain it in the future.
• Familiarity with AWS D1.1 or similar welding codes.
• Previous internship or co-op experience in construction, fabrication, or welding-related roles.
• Genuine interest in welding at both the construction and fabrication facility levels.
