About the role#
The X-Ray Extern role at Summit Health provides an opportunity to shadow experienced preceptors within a clinical imaging environment. This position is designed for students in Nursing, Biomedical Sciences, Health Administration, or Public Health who are interested in gaining hands-on exposure to radiology operations and patient care.
What you'll do#
- Assist with patient flow and serve as a liaison between patients and the imaging team, including technologists and leadership.
- Greet and escort patients throughout the facility with their permission.
- Prepare rooms and equipment before and after imaging studies.
- Restock supplies and handle medical equipment properly.
- Assist with positioning patients for imaging.
- Review screening questionnaires and set proper technical factors.
- Participate in administering radiation under supervision.
- Learn radiology workflows, metrics, and processes.
- Gain experience with quality assurance programs, radiation safety policies, and quality control documentation.
- Practice patient and staff experience initiatives.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a relevant degree program such as Nursing, Biomedical Sciences, Health Administration, or Public Health.
- An interest in understanding radiology workflows, metrics, and clinical processes.
- Ability to assist with patient flow and professional patient interaction.
- Willingness to learn safety protocols, including radiation safety and quality assurance programs.
Location & details#
- This is an on-site, full-time, paid externship located in Nanuet, New York.
- The role follows a rolling term structure.
