About the role#
STV is looking for a Structural Engineering Intern to join our Water/Wastewater team for the Summer 2027 term. This position provides students with hands-on experience working alongside licensed engineers on the planning, design, and delivery of infrastructure projects. You will contribute to various phases of design and construction while gaining insight into professional structural engineering practices.
What you'll do#
- Assist with structural design and analysis tasks for water and wastewater facilities.
- Support the development of structural plans, layouts, and design concepts.
- Prepare drawings, sketches, and calculations for construction documents.
- Conduct research on design options, codes, and standards.
- Perform basic calculations for items such as heights, weights, concrete quantities, and equipment fit-up.
- Support cost estimating efforts, including quantity take-offs and gathering vendor information.
- Review shop drawings and technical submittals under the guidance of senior staff.
- Participate in project meetings and collaborate with team members across different disciplines.
- Assist with field observations and documentation of site conditions or construction progress.
- Use computer-assisted engineering and design software for project documentation.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related field.
- Strong interest in structural engineering within the water and wastewater industry.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Familiarity with structural analysis or design software is a plus.

- This is a paid, part-time internship.
- The role is based on-site.
- Locations include Austin, TX, Oklahoma City, OK, Fort Worth, TX, and Dallas, TX.
