About the role#
Stellar Science is looking for interns and co-op students to join our team in Albuquerque. This is a paid position focused on object-oriented C++ software development. You will work on scientific and engineering projects across several domains, including space domain awareness, image simulation, computer vision, and high-performance computing. We value candidates who are responsible, honest, and able to learn new tools quickly.
What you'll do#
You will support the development of software for complex systems. Your work will involve:
- Developing and maintaining mathematical and scientific software libraries.
- Contributing to projects in artificial intelligence, machine learning, and atmospheric modeling.
- Working on computational electromagnetics, thermal modeling, and CAD tools.
- Modeling laser sources and high-power microwave systems.
- Collaborating within small teams or working independently to meet mission requirements.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a degree program for physics, mathematics, computer science, or engineering (electrical, mechanical, or aerospace).
- Proficiency in C++ software development.
- Ability to understand and implement scientific software libraries.
- Availability for full-time employment within a year of completing the internship.
- U.S. citizenship and willingness to undergo a background investigation.
- Experience or interest in cross-platform development (Linux and Windows), 3D graphics (OpenGL, Vulkan), UI development (Qt, React), or supercomputing (CUDA, MPI).
- Familiarity with aerospace vehicles, orbital mechanics, or directed energy systems is a plus.
- A representative sample of your code to demonstrate your programming skills.
Location & details#
This role is based on-site in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Some work may be performed at government or customer sites. The position is a paid, rolling internship.
