Loss Control Student

About the role#

As a Loss Control Student, you will gain hands-on experience supporting the Loss Control and Risk Management team. This role involves evaluating risks, conducting inspections, and helping clients improve safety and reduce exposure to loss across various industries, including oil and petrochemical, chemical, power generation, mining, forestry, manufacturing, and distribution.

What you'll do#

• Assist with property loss control inspections across diverse industries.
• Support Loss Control Consultants during both on-site visits and virtual inspections.
• Evaluate physical hazards, sprinkler systems, and management and maintenance programs to provide guidance on recommended improvements.
• Gather and review data from claims, inspections, incident reports, and market reports to assess client risk.
• Contribute to the evaluation of risk quality and insurability to support underwriting decision-making.
• Prepare reports, recommendations, and presentations for internal and external stakeholders.
• Conduct research on industry best practices, safety regulations, and emerging risks.
• Assist in developing and updating safety materials and guides.
• Participate in safety meetings and internal training sessions.

What you'll need#

• Current enrollment in a degree program related to Occupational Health & Safety, Insurance, Risk Management, Fire Science, Industrial Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, Business Administration, Health Administration, or a related field.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Attention to detail and analytical skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
• A valid driver’s license may be required for field visits.
