About the role#
As a CNC Apprentice Co-Op at Standex International, you will work in our Maumee, Ohio facility. This role focuses on hands-on training within a manufacturing environment. You will work alongside experienced machinists, programmers, and engineers to build skills in producing precision tooling components for the automotive industry. This is a paid, full-time position that follows a structured program designed for skill development.
What you'll do#
- Operate CNC milling and turning machines to produce precision tooling components.
- Load materials and tooling into machines while verifying setups.
- Read and interpret blueprints, CAD drawings, and work instructions.
- Inspect finished parts using calipers, micrometers, and gauges.
- Perform routine machine maintenance and keep your work area clean and organized.
- Monitor, document, and communicate production and quality data.
- Assist with troubleshooting minor machine or tooling issues.
- Support team continuous improvement initiatives.
- Follow all safety policies and wear required personal protective equipment.
- Progress through the structured apprenticeship program by meeting training objectives and performance expectations.
What you'll need#
- Strong mechanical aptitude and a basic understanding of shop mathematics.
- A positive attitude, strong work ethic, and dependable attendance.
- Ability or willingness to learn how to read blueprints and use precision measuring instruments.
- Attention to detail and a commitment to quality.
- Ability to safely lift 10 to 50 pounds.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Flexibility to support changing production priorities.
- 1 to 2 years of CNC milling or turning experience is preferred, though not required.
- Experience in automotive tooling, mold making, or thermoforming is a plus.
- Exposure to Mastercam or other CNC programming software is helpful.
