About the role#
Spring Meadow Nursery, Inc. is hiring an R&D Production Intern for the Summer 2027 season. This is a full-time, on-site, paid internship based in Grand Haven, Michigan. You will split your time between laboratory work and plant breeding tasks.
What you'll do#
- Collect, organize, and process plant tissue samples from the greenhouse and field.
- Operate a QuantaCyte flow cytometer to generate and record data in Excel.
- Evaluate histograms to distinguish between conclusive and inconclusive results.
- Prepare tissue culture media by following established recipes.
- Perform micropropagation and maintain laboratory glassware.
- Execute plant breeding tasks, including hand-pollinations and pollen collection.
- Apply polyploidy-inducing treatments to germinating seedlings.
- Harvest and clean seeds.
What you'll need#
- Current pursuit of an Associate or Bachelor degree in a plant science field, or 1-2 years of related work experience.
- Ability to follow written laboratory procedures and standard operating procedures.
- High attention to detail.
- Proficiency with basic laboratory tools like digital scales and pipettes.
- Strong computer skills for data entry in Excel and navigation of CyPad programming.
- Ability to lift, carry, or move 30 pounds.
