About the role#
South Putnam Animal Hospital offers a hands-on externship program for DVM students. This program provides practical experience in a small animal practice to help you prepare for life after graduation. You will work alongside our veterinary team and receive mentorship throughout your rotation. We provide a stipend of $250 per week.
What you'll do#
Under the supervision of a mentor doctor, you will participate in the daily operations of our practice. Your responsibilities include:
- Gathering patient histories and performing physical examinations.
- Developing diagnostic and therapeutic plans.
- Scrubbing in to surgery and assisting with medical case management.
- Providing wellness care to patients.
- Developing client communication skills and refining technical abilities.
- Producing medical records, including SOAPs.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited DVM program.
- Authorization to work in the United States.
- Professional liability insurance, with a submitted certificate of coverage.
Location & details#
- Location: Mahopac, New York.
- Modality: On-site.
- Term: Rolling, with rotations typically lasting two to eight weeks.
- Schedule: Includes days, evenings, and weekends.
