About the role#
As a UI/UX Design Intern at Sophinea, you will work on real AI and data products alongside our engineering team. You will help shape how users interact with our platforms, including our secure AI and analytics tool, Halo. This is a paid, part-time position that runs for the duration of the semester.
What you'll do#
- Design wireframes, user flows, and high-fidelity mockups for web and mobile products.
- Build interactive prototypes to test ideas before engineering starts.
- Run lightweight user research including interviews, usability tests, and synthesis.
- Contribute components and patterns to our design system.
- Design dashboards and data visualizations to make complex information easy to read.
- Hand off designs to developers and review the final output.
What you'll need#
- Currently enrolled in a bachelor's or master's program in UX, interaction design, graphic design, HCI, or a related field.
- A portfolio that shows your design process, not just final screens.
- Working knowledge of Figma or a similar tool.
- Understanding of usability principles and accessibility basics (WCAG).
- Clear communication and comfort receiving feedback.
- Ability to work on-site in Manassas on hybrid days.
- Experience designing dashboards or data-heavy interfaces is a plus.
- Familiarity with Apple Human Interface Guidelines or Material Design.
- Basic HTML/CSS skills.
- Interest in AI products and how people build trust in them.

- Location: Manassas, Virginia.
- Work Modality: Hybrid.
- Schedule: Part-time, approximately 10-15 hours per week.
- Compensation: Paid internship.
