Snappr News is launching an editorial photo and video product focused on technology news in the San Francisco Bay Area. As a Visual Journalist Intern, you will play a leading role in shaping this new product from the ground up, covering tech companies, founders, workers, and the culture surrounding the industry. You will work on-site in the field to capture the moments that define the local tech landscape.
What you'll do#
- Report visually in the field, including breaking news, events, portraits, features, and stories where technology meets real life.
- Produce both photo and video content on assignment, ranging from quick-hit coverage to short-form storytelling.
- Write complete, accurate captions for every photo and video, including names, titles, dates, locations, and context.
- Tag and package content correctly in the proprietary Snappr News app, including keywords, locations, people, companies, and legal information.
- Operate according to established photojournalistic ethics and standards.
- Receive coaching from experienced photographers and collaborate with the Snappr News team.
What you'll need#
- A strong photographic portfolio; street photography is acceptable if you lack specific photojournalism experience.
- Solid video shooting skills.
- Extreme attention to detail and a patient, calm demeanor under pressure.
- A charismatic personality with a genuine interest in meeting new people.
- Preference is given to students in Journalism, Media Studies, Communications, Art, or Graphic Design, particularly those attending local universities such as Berkeley or Stanford.
- Experience in photojournalism is a plus.
- A motorbike license is preferred, though not required; company bikes are available for use.
Location & details#
- Location: San Francisco, California.
- Term: Summer 2026 (8-12 weeks).
- Work Modality: On-site at the downtown San Francisco office and in the field.
- Schedule: Full-time (40 hours per week), primarily Monday through Friday, with occasional weekend assignments, evening events, and on-call availability.
- Compensation: $25 per hour with approved travel expenses covered.
- Equipment: Top-end gear is provided, though the use of personal full-frame equipment may be considered if compatible with company hardware.
