About the role#
Sky Lakes Medical Center is hiring a Surgery Technician/LPN Intern for the Family Birthing Center. This is a full-time, on-site internship with a rolling start date. You will work under the direction and supervision of a licensed RN or Certified Surgical Technician to support surgical procedures and patient care.
What you'll do#
- Prepare for procedures by scrubbing, gowning, and gloving.
- Maintain a sterile environment during setup and throughout the operation.
- Organize tables, instruments, and supplies based on the scheduled case.
- Assist with patient draping, positioning, and movement.
- Anticipate the needs of the surgeon regarding instrumentation, sutures, sponges, and supplies.
- Perform accurate sponge, needle, and instrument counts with the circulating RN.
- Label surgical specimens and assist with the application of dressings and casts.
- Clean the surgical suite after cases and restock LDRP rooms following vaginal deliveries.
- Monitor patients for physical changes and respond to emergency situations.
- Handle medications on the surgical field safely.
- Adhere to hospital confidentiality standards and OSHAS safety policies.
What you'll need#
- A basic understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.
- Ability to obtain BLS certification within 60 days of hire and maintain it thereafter.
- Compliance with the legal requirement for the grandfathered training clause.
- Ability to perform medium to heavy physical work, including standing for long periods, pushing or pulling up to 1200 pounds, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
- Strong eye-hand coordination and the ability to work under time constraints.
