About the role#
Skippack Animal Hospital offers a DVM externship program for students seeking practical experience in a small animal practice that also sees exotics. This program supports your clinical education by providing hands-on training under the guidance of a mentor doctor. You will work alongside our veterinary team to practice problem-solving, technical, and communication skills. We provide a stipend of $250 per week.
What you'll do#
Under the supervision of a mentor, you will participate in all aspects of patient care. Your daily responsibilities include gathering patient histories and performing physical examinations. You will develop diagnostic and therapeutic plans and assist in managing medical cases. You will also provide wellness care, scrub into surgeries, and produce medical records (SOAPs) within the time constraints of a busy practice. Your schedule will include a mix of days, evenings, and weekends.
What you'll need#
You must be currently enrolled in an accredited DVM program and authorized to work in the United States. We require all students to carry professional liability insurance and provide a certificate of coverage. You should be familiar with the Veterinary Practice Act regarding the scope of duties and supervision requirements. We expect you to behave professionally and follow the standards outlined in our employee handbook.

This program is located in Skippack, Pennsylvania. Externships are on-site and the term is rolling, with durations typically ranging from two to eight weeks based on your college curriculum.
