About the role#
ShyftLabs is seeking an AI Engineer Intern to contribute to the Continuum platform, an enterprise AI agent execution and control system. This is a hands-on engineering position focused on building production-ready AI agents and applications for enterprise use cases. You will work across various domains including agent orchestration, memory systems, model optimization, retrieval, and safety guardrails.
What you'll do#
- Build and improve agent orchestration and multi-agent workflows.
- Develop agentic applications for enterprise use cases using the Continuum platform.
- Work with a variety of commercial and open-source models, including OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini, Llama, Qwen, and Mistral.
- Implement AI guardrails to manage safety, security, access control, data privacy, and policy enforcement.
- Create evaluation pipelines to measure accuracy, groundedness, hallucination, tool usage, workflow completion, latency, and cost.
- Contribute to the Continuum open-source codebase, documentation, and developer experience.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
- Strong programming skills in Python.
- Solid understanding of machine learning, natural language processing, and LLM fundamentals.
- Experience building at least one LLM-powered or agentic application.
- Familiarity with prompt engineering, embeddings, RAG, tool calling, and structured outputs.
- Ability to research technical problems, experiment with different approaches, and communicate results clearly.

- Location: Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
- Work Modality: Hybrid (three days per week in the Toronto office).
- Term: Rolling.
- Compensation: $20 - $30 per hour (CAD).
