The Residential Advisor for Student Leadership is a live-in staff position that supports student life and residential operations at Shaw University. Reporting to the Dean of Students, this role focuses on fostering an inclusive residential environment, supporting student government initiatives, and participating in crisis response. This position is ideal for individuals currently pursuing a Master’s degree in a related field.
What you'll do#
- Serve as a live-in staff member within the residence halls, providing on-site support and after-hours availability.
- Support residence hall community-building efforts in collaboration with Resident Assistants.
- Respond to student behavioral, safety, and wellness concerns using a student-centered approach.
- Assist professional staff with documentation, referrals, and incident follow-up.
- Co-advise the Student Government Association and Royal Court, including assisting with leadership development programs and governance training.
- Provide on-site event support and logistical coordination as assigned.
- Participate in a week-long crisis response rotation.
What you'll need#
- Bachelor’s degree required; active pursuit of a Master’s degree in Student Affairs, Higher Education, or a related field is preferred.
- 2+ years of experience in student programming, leadership development, or housing and residence life preferred.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, manage multiple projects, and maintain confidentiality.
- Proficiency in English, with strong oral and written presentation skills.

- Modality: On-site.
- Compensation: This is a paid position including on-campus housing and a $14,000 yearly stipend.
