About the role#
The Residential Advisor for Student Leadership serves as a live-in staff member within the residence halls at Shaw University. Reporting to the Dean of Students, this role supports the residential community by assisting with operational procedures, student-centered support, and leadership development initiatives. This position is designed to foster an inclusive and engaging campus environment through collaboration with Resident Assistants and professional staff.
What you'll do#
- Serve as a live-in staff member within the residence halls.
- Support residence hall community-building efforts in collaboration with Resident Assistants.
- Respond to student behavioral, safety, and wellness concerns using a student-centered approach.
- Assist professional staff with documentation, referrals, and follow-up related to incidents.
- Provide on-site event support and logistical coordination as assigned.
- Support and co-advise the Student Government Association and Royal Court.
- Assist with leadership development programs, retreats, and governance training.
- Serve on a week-long crisis response rotation and act as an after-hours point of contact for housing concerns.
What you'll need#
- Bachelor’s degree required; active pursuit of a Master’s degree in Student Affairs, Higher Education, or a related field is preferred.
- 2+ years of experience in student programming, leadership development, or housing and residence life preferred.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to work well independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

- Compensation: This is a paid position that includes on-campus housing and a $14,000 yearly stipend.
