About the role#
The Program Development Intern will support food security fundraising initiatives at Services for the UnderServed. This role provides hands-on exposure to nonprofit fundraising strategy with a focus on food access, community nutrition, and food security programs. You will join the team for a 20-week term during the Summer 2026 season, which is a period of high volume for grant opportunities and foundation deadlines.
What you'll do#
- Conduct proactive fundraising research focused on food security, nutrition access, and community-based food programs.
- Identify and track foundation, corporate, and government funding opportunities, including deadlines, eligibility criteria, and funding priorities.
- Maintain and update fundraising research trackers, calendars, and prospect lists.
- Support the program development team with early-stage grant preparation, such as summarizing RFPs, drafting opportunity briefs, and compiling background materials.
- Monitor seasonal funding trends to help anticipate upcoming opportunities during peak summer grant cycles.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a master's (preferred) or undergraduate program in Public Health, Nutrition, Sociology, Political Science, Communications, Social Work, Food Justice, or a relevant field.
- Strong interest in nonprofit fundraising, program development, or food security.
- Excellent research, organization, and time-management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines.
- Strong written communication and attention to detail.
