About the role#
Selfhelp Community Services is hiring a Social Work Intern for the Fall 2026 term. Working under the supervision of a SIFI-certified Social Worker, you will provide support and assistance to older adult clients across New York. This is a paid, part-time internship based on-site in the Queens area.
What you'll do#
- Conduct home, office, and phone-based client assistance.
- Perform intakes, provide information, and offer referrals.
- Screen clients and help them with applications and re-certifications for benefits and entitlements.
- Assess clients in their homes, hospitals, or institutional settings.
- Advocate for clients and manage the development and implementation of care plans.
- Provide supportive counseling and maintain communication with families and collaterals.
- Document case notes and report statistics to meet organizational and NYC Department for the Aging standards.
- Participate in supervision, staff meetings, and agency trainings.
- Facilitate social, recreational, and group activities.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Master of Social Work program.
- Bilingual proficiency in Mandarin or Korean and English.
- Three personal statements (minimum 250 words each) covering your career goals in social work and geriatrics, your general career goals, and why you are the best candidate for the scholarship.
