    About the role#

    The Building Commissioning Fellow position is a full-time, 10-month fellowship starting September 1st, 2026. This role is part of the Climate Corps Fellowship program and offers hands-on experience in sustainable building systems. Fellows work alongside commissioning engineers on new construction and existing building projects to verify that mechanical, electrical, plumbing, lighting, and controls systems are installed correctly and operating as designed.

    What you'll do#

    • Support the development and documentation of pre-functional and functional tests for mechanical, electrical, and controls systems.
    • Assist in the review of construction documents, submittals, and equipment schedules to ensure design and performance needs are met.
    • Investigate building performance by tracking observations, supporting issue resolution, and verifying that construction-phase requirements are achieved.
    • Contribute to the development of commissioning plans, schedules, and site-specific reports.
    • Participate in field verification activities, including equipment identification, installation checks, and startup witnessing.
    • Assist with existing building investigations, including the review of Building Automation Systems trend data and the identification of operational deficiencies.
    • Support turnover documentation, such as operations and maintenance materials, systems manuals, and owner training coordination.

    What you'll need#

    • A background in mechanical, electrical, or architectural engineering, energy management, facilities, or a related field.
    • Basic familiarity with HVAC concepts or building automation systems.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills for documentation-heavy tasks.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, specifically Word and Excel.
    • Reliability for varied site visits, including the ability to access mechanical rooms and rooftops and lift 25-50 pounds.
    • Ability to work onsite on a hybrid basis within commuting distance of Seattle.

    • Location: Seattle, Washington.
    • Modality: Hybrid (onsite 3-4 days per week).
    • Term: Fall 2026 (10-month duration).
    • Status: Full-time paid fellowship.
    • Note: Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
