About the role#
Seasats builds autonomous surface vehicles that operate at sea for months at a time. These missions require mechanical systems that survive harsh maritime environments. As a Mechanical Engineering Intern, you will work with our team to design, build, and test vehicle hardware that goes to sea. This is a full-time, on-site role based in San Diego.
What you'll do#
- Design mechanical parts and simple assemblies using SolidWorks.
- Update and maintain CAD models, drawings, and bills of materials.
- Build fixtures, tooling, and jigs for assembly and testing.
- Support part sourcing and communicate with suppliers.
- Assemble and inspect mechanical components and subassemblies.
- Participate in testing for new and existing vehicle components.
- Manage documentation, configuration, and organization of design files.
- Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and software engineers on electro-mechanical systems.
What you'll need#
- Completion of 2-3 years of coursework toward a BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- Hands-on experience using SolidWorks for part and assembly design.
- Ability to read and create basic mechanical drawings.
- Strong attention to detail and a willingness to iterate based on feedback.
- Experience with manufacturing methods like 3D printing, CNC, waterjet, or shop tools.
- Familiarity with GD&T and exposure to electrical or software systems.
- Experience through internships, projects, or clubs like Formula SAE or robotics teams.
- Interest in robotics, autonomous systems, or maritime environments.
- Must be a U.S. person as defined by export control laws.
