About the role#
Seafield Center Alcohol and Substance Abuse Treatment offers an internship for students to gain training in chemical dependency principles. You will provide supervised direct and indirect treatment to clients while fulfilling requirements for your educational institution. This is a paid, full-time, on-site role based in Westhampton Beach, New York, running during the Fall 2026 and Winter 2027 terms.
What you'll do#
- Shadow an assigned counselor to learn group and individual counseling techniques.
- Attend individual and group supervision, staff meetings, in-service trainings, and case conferences.
- Provide counseling for individuals, groups, and families.
- Conduct psychosocial assessments and design treatment plans.
- Track client progress toward treatment goals and handle progress reporting.
- Facilitate lectures, seminars, or workshops.
- Contact referral sources and participate in case conferences.
- Develop skills in areas such as intake, screening, crisis intervention, and case management.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an accredited program for psychology, social work, mental health counseling, or an OASAS education program.
