About the role#
Schmidt Sciences invites recent PhD graduates in AI and computer science to join a 12-18 month fellowship program. This role offers a flexible environment where you will split your time between independent research and supporting the AI Institute's grantmaking efforts. We are looking for experts in domains such as trustworthy AI, interpretability, multi-agent systems, AI for scientific discovery, and the impact of AI on labor and metascience.
What you'll do#
- Conduct independent research aligned with your area of expertise.
- Read and assess external research proposals to support funding decisions.
- Identify and recruit expert reviewers for research proposals.
- Organize workshops or develop smaller grant series to build research communities.
- Attend grantee gatherings and represent Schmidt Sciences at external conferences.
What you'll need#
- A PhD in AI or computer science.
- A strong record of academic accomplishments and publications.
- A research proposal that aligns with the AI Institute's priorities.
- Demonstrated fluency in using AI tools to improve your daily workflow.
- A genuine interest in staying current on the evolution of AI technology.
Location & details#
- This is a full-time, on-site position based in New York City.
- The initial term is 12-18 months, with a potential extension up to 24 months.
- Fellows receive access to compute credits, event funding, and travel support for research collaboration.
- You may maintain an unpaid, external academic affiliation if it does not conflict with institutional policies.
