This internship offers the opportunity to work onsite at the Ann Arbor, MI facility alongside engineers and scientists on life science instrumentation. The role focuses on experimental work, including wet lab tasks and system-level testing, as well as data analysis and mechanical prototyping. You will receive guidance on tools, processes, and laboratory practices while contributing to projects that support bioprocessing research.
What you'll do#
- Work in laboratory and prototype spaces to set up experiments, interpret mechanical drawings, and troubleshoot experimental setups.
- Assist with robotic and automated workflows by preparing equipment, running test sequences, and refining processes.
- Build and modify early-stage prototypes, execute experiments, and collect data.
- Perform cell culture preparation and other experimental tasks in a BSL2 environment.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineering, biology, quality, and manufacturing, to ensure experimental designs are practical and reproducible.
- Maintain clear documentation, such as lab notebooks, test reports, and experimental protocols.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Master's or PhD program in Bioengineering, Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
- Foundational understanding of biological lab work in a BSL2 environment.
- Familiarity with robotic or automated workflows.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, including assembly drawings and dimensions.
- Programming ability in scientific workflows using languages such as Python, MATLAB, R, C#, or C++.
- Experience with prototyping and experimentation in a laboratory setting.
